Judith Nicoll - Born 1945

Judith grew up on a Dorset farm adjoining the Abbotsbury Swannery near the Chesil beach in Dorset. Educated in Dorset and Switzerland and later studied for a B.Ed., MA & PhD. After working as a secretary, London teacher and then on the Research Team of the Schools’ Council she interrupted her doctoral thesis to accompany her husband to live in Bermuda.

Since childhood she has always enjoyed making things & her hobby has developed into a full-time occupation of carving birds. Her work is exhibited both in UK galleries and special exhibitions abroad. She is also now enjoying stone carving and her favourite piece is a 3' tropical fish in a stone from Zimbabwe.

Her carving is in 3 distinct styles:
· Highly detailed & realistic work with feather engraved
· Decoy style ducks & shorebirds with antique finish
· Stylised shapes in naturally finished hardwoods often antiqued
