In 2011, Net Entertainment brought Robin Hood and his band of merry men to the land of online slots. Robin Hood is a visually engaging 3D slot with an animated opening sequence and continued animations throughout the game.
The reels are set among the autumn leaves of some hidden hollow in Sherwood Forest whilst the distant trumpeting that can be heard may suggest the approach of a royal hunting party. Among the Robin Hood cast are, of course, Little John, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck, and one of the Sherriff of Nottingham’s knights, as well as the Prince of Thieves himself. Other Robin Hood symbols include the high-value playing cards Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10.
Robin Hood Shifting Reels Feature
The most unique element of the Robin Hood slot is its shifting reels feature. Every time a winning combination is landed, Reel 5, which is farthest to the right, will vanish and all of the reels will shift to the right to fill its place. This leaves Reel 1 empty and so a new reel appears there.
This shifting process continues as long as further winning combinations are landed in Robin Hood.
The Wild Robin Hood Logo
The wild symbol in this game is simply the Robin Hood logo and can serve as a substitute for all other symbols except the scatter to complete winning paylines. These are also the most valuable five-of-a-kind symbols, yielding a payout of 1 000 coins when five appear on an active payline. This, in combinations with the Robin Hood shifting reels feature, can result in a multiplier of up to 5x on every spin.
There is another Robin Hood wild symbol that comes into play during the free spins round and this will be explained shortly.
Money Bags Full of Free Spins
The scatter symbol in Robin Hood also has an unusual twist in that it works cumulatively. Every time a scatter, in the form of a money bag, lands anywhere on the reels, Robin Hood pops out and deposits it into one of the treasure chests below. An interesting feature regarding the Robin Hood money bags is that players may save them for up to one year, returning to the game at any point to pick up where they left off.
Once four money bags have been deposited into a single chest, the Robin Hood free spins feature is activated. At this point, the player must click on the chest to reveal its value. One of the main characters – Robin, Little John, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck or the knight – will then be identified as the extra wild symbol and will become active during the free spins. This new wild symbol may substitute for any symbol except the free spins logo to form winning combinations during free spins.
Robin Hood players start the round with 10 free spins mostly but may acquire more if two free spins symbols appear on Reels 3, 4 and 5. The number of extra free spins awarded depends on the number of free spins symbols – five free spins for two symbols and 10 for three. This accumulation of further free spins can continue indefinitely.
Note that money bag symbols do not appear on the reels during the Robin Hood free spins rounds.
